Once again another Emergency Warming Centre has been approved by the Cowichan Valley Regional District at the parking lot behind the Ramada Inn Hotel.
The CVRD will pay a rental charge for this location. Once again just proves that the CVRD board are unqualified to make meaningful decisions. Why? The Cowichan Valley now has an empty Police station. This location could be used as an Emergency Warming Centre which would avoid spending taxpayer dollars for the rental of the Ramada Inn parking lot. The CVRD has no consideration when it comes to spending taxpayer dollars.
Cannot say that the location is too far away because in 2022 the warming centre was at the St Andrews Church on Herbert Street. The location was not approved again in 2023 because of people fighting outside and garbage being spread all over the neighbourhood. Also when the centre was full, people were found in the near by bushes. Cannot use the excuse about asbestos at the old Police station being a problem because no demolition has been started. The building is intact just like when it was occupied by the staff at the station.
In summary, when are valley taxpayers going to vote in qualified people to sit on the Cowichan Valley Regional Board that use common sense and avoids wasting taxpayer dollars? Presently this is a very serious situation and must be corrected as soon as possible to avoid more of your tax dollars going to waste.
Unbelievable!
