Another round of fearmongering, another wave of headlines telling us how doomed we are. The latest piece on why B.C. kids are “sick all the time” is just a repeat performance. COVID caused this, RSV caused that, and the answer, predictably, is more vaccines, more panic, and more hot air from the usual suspects.
Let’s cut to it: People aren’t buying this anymore. They barely went along with the narrative at the start, and now, after years of contradictions and fear campaigns, trust is dead in the water. The so-called “experts” claim immunity debt isn’t real, but they’re happy to replace it with something new like “immunity theft” to keep people scared. It’s just another way to cover up bad policy, and most of us have figured that out by now.
Immunity Debt or Just Bad Excuses?
Remember when Bonnie Henry told us kids were sick because of “immunity debt”? The story was simple: lockdowns meant fewer infections, so kids’ immune systems didn’t get the workout they needed. The media latched onto it, parroting it like gospel. But now we’re being told immunity debt was a mistake, and the real issue is “immunity theft” from COVID itself.
Let’s think about this for a second. Kids who weren’t even born during lockdowns are getting slammed with the same illnesses. So what’s the excuse for them? It doesn’t add up. This isn’t about immunity; it’s about a broken system. Schools, daycares, and hospitals weren’t ready, and when things fell apart, they needed something to blame.
And while we’re on the subject, the reinfection argument is just embarrassing. Even the experts admit that vaccines and infections don’t provide lasting immunity, not for COVID, RSV, or the flu. So if getting sick doesn’t make you stronger, and vaccines don’t stop you from getting sick again, what exactly are we supposed to do? The answer seems to be nothing.
Media Spin and Public Health’s Credibility Crisis
Trust in public health and the media isn’t just low, it’s practically nonexistent. For years, they’ve been caught saying things that didn’t hold up. “Vaccines will stop the spread.” Wrong. “Kids don’t get COVID.” Also wrong. “It’s just a cold.” Turns out, not so much.
When the facts didn’t match their promises, they didn’t course-correct. They doubled down, treating anyone with questions like a public enemy. Just look at what happened to Detective Helen Grus, the Ottawa cop who asked if vaccines might be linked to infant deaths. She didn’t accuse anyone of anything; she just asked the question. For that, she was hung out to dry by her own department and smeared by the CBC.
Now we’re supposed to trust the same media outlets when they tell us the only way out is another booster? Get real.
Big Tech doesn’t get to walk away clean from this mess either. For years, platforms like Facebook and Twitter silenced anyone questioning the official COVID story. Mark Zuckerberg even admitted the government pressured them to censor posts that turned out to be true. Think about that for a second, true information was shut down because it wasn’t convenient for the narrative.
What did they accomplish with all this censorship? A polarized public and a complete collapse in trust. People aren’t paranoid or anti-science for questioning the story, they’re just fed up with being lied to.
The Real Reason Kids Are Sicker
Kids aren’t sicker because of some abstract concept like immunity debt or theft. They’re sicker because the system isn’t built to handle what’s happening. Hospitals are understaffed, schools still have garbage ventilation, and long-term fixes aren’t even on the table. Instead, they’re just throwing the same tired solutions at the wall, boosters, masks, and more headlines designed to scare people into compliance.
Public health officials had years to fix these issues, but they didn’t. They reopened schools without proper safeguards, ignored calls for cleaner air, and dismissed concerns about Long COVID until it became impossible to deny. Meanwhile, kids kept getting sick, and parents were left scrambling for answers.
It’s not that people don’t care about their health or their kids. They’ve just had enough of the fearmongering and empty promises. Public health officials had their moment in the spotlight, and they don’t want to give it up. The media raked in clicks during the pandemic, Big Pharma made a killing, and nobody involved wants to admit that the strategy isn’t working anymore.
But for regular people, it’s exhausting. They’re tired of being talked to like children. They’re tired of shifting narratives, and they’re done pretending that any of this makes sense.
If public health officials and the media want to fix the mess they’ve created, they need to drop the spin and start delivering real solutions. Fix the ventilation in schools. Staff the hospitals. Admit the mistakes instead of burying them under the next buzzword.
Until that happens, don’t be surprised if people keep tuning out. They’re done with the scare tactics and the talking points. At this point, trust isn’t just damaged, it’s gone.
